File Manager

Great images are key to creating a visually appealing website. And having a streamlined way to upload, organize, and manage those images and documents is just as important. That’s where File Manager in Editor comes in.

This guide covers everything you need to know about File Manager, including:

  • Uploading and organizing images

  • Viewing and editing image files

  • Managing PDFs and other documents

  • Helpful tools like Recent Uploads and Search

In This Article:

Accessing File Manager

To open the File Manager, click the “Files” button in the top-left corner of Editor. By default, it opens to the Images section, where you’ll find every image uploaded to your website—whether uploaded from a page or added directly.

Even images uploaded from a specific page are automatically stored here for easy access.

Organizing with Folders

File Manager includes a folder system that functions much like the one on your own computer. You can:

  • Create folders and subfolders

  • Move images between folders by clicking and dragging

  • Rename folders for better organization

This keeps your content neat and easy to manage, especially over time.

Warning: If you delete a folder, you'll also delete all images inside that folder. But don't worry, the system will require you to confirm before anything is actually deleted.

Viewing Your Files: List vs. Grid View

There are two viewing options in File Manager:

List View

List View shows:

  • Image ID: A unique identifier used by Editor

  • Thumbnail: A small preview of the image

  • File Name: Choose clear, descriptive names for accessibility and easy searching

  • Type: File format (e.g., JPG, PNG)

  • Upload Date & File Size

  • Locations on Site: Shows where the image is currently used on your website

Even if an image is moved to a different folder, Editor uses its ID to preserve the link—so nothing breaks.

Grid View

Grid View displays larger previews of your images and hides extra details. It’s the easiest way to visually scan your media library.

Uploading Images

To upload a new image:

  1. Navigate to the folder where you'd like to store it.

  2. Click the Upload Image button.

  3. Choose your file from your computer and click Upload.

No need to resize or compress images manually—Editor automatically optimizes resolution and file size during upload.

Once uploaded, the image will appear in the folder, and you'll see several action options.

Editing Images

Click on any image to access its tools. Here's what you can do:

File Name

Rename your image to improve organization and searchability.

Preview

View the image full screen to inspect details before using it.

Crop

Trim your image to remove unwanted areas. Edits are saved as a new copy, so the original stays intact.

Edit (Image Editing Tool)

This powerful built-in tool includes:

  • Filters (e.g., grayscale, polaroid)

  • Transform (rotate, flip)

  • Aspect Ratio Cropping

  • Draw, Add Text or Shapes

Every edit is saved as a copy, ensuring your original file is always safe.

Generates a permanent, shareable URL for the image. Useful for email platforms, digital flyers, or linking a logo.

Delete

You’ll be prompted to confirm before deletion.

Editor won’t let you delete an image if it’s still in use on the site—another safeguard to protect your content.

Working with Files (PDFs, Docs, and More)

To upload documents like PDFs:

  1. In File Manager, switch from Images to Files.

  2. Click Upload, choose your file, and save it to the desired folder.

Just like images, you can:

  • Rename files

  • View where they’re used on the site

  • Copy direct URLs for sharing

  • Delete unused files

Uploading Images from a Page

Many users will upload images directly while editing a page. Here's an example:

  1. Navigate to your Staff page in Page Manager.

  2. Click Add New Staff Member.

  3. Use the image upload button to access File Manager.

  4. Select or upload your image, then click Use.

For certain images housed in responsive or contained areas, you'll be shown cropping frames to see how the image will appear in different spots (horizontal banners, square thumbnails, etc.), and allow you to select a focal point of the image. Click on the center of the the subject, then click Save to finalize.

Other Helpful Tools

View Recent Uploads

Click the View Recent Uploads button in the top-right corner of File Manager to quickly find your newest uploads, sorted by date.

Looking for a specific image or file? Use the Search bar to find it by name. This is where clear, intentional file names really pay off.

Overwrite a File

If you need to replace a file without changing the URL, make sure your file is named identically to the file already in File Manager and that it is the same type. If those conditions are met when you upload a file, the system will ask you if you would like to overwrite the existing file or upload another version.

Wrapping Up

File Manager makes it simple to upload, organize, and use images and files across your website. Whether you’re resizing a logo, cropping staff photos, or uploading your latest brochure, you can do it all in one place—without needing third-party tools.
